Genetic health gene test

Why it’s so important

Initial prescribed medicines are often a “trial and error” decision. For example, 38% of depression patients will not respond to their initial treatments*. We believe that by taking our tests these figures can be reduced dramatically. This test is provided by Genomind through its exclusive UK partnership with Myogenes.

  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

.

The Benefits

If you’re living with mental illness, you’ll know that the correct treatment and medication makes all the difference. And, in the current climate of ever changing lockdown restrictions, getting the most effective treatment and medication has never been more important.

That’s why this genetic test has been designed to help your doctor quickly make the right treatment decisions for you. In fact, by identifying your specific genetic markers, it can both indicate which treatments are likely to be the most effective for you and what dosage should be prescribed as well as helping you avoid any treatments that are likely to result in adverse effects.

Your test and results

The test is a non-invasive saliva swab that can be done in the comfort of your own home, or in your doctor’s office. The sample is then sent to our laboratory and the results will be ready in around 7-10 days. The results will be sent back to your doctor who will then go through it with you and suggest what the next best steps should be. We also have a panel of doctors that can help interpret these tests, if a patient does not have a doctor.

The Myogenes Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Test FAQ

What is the Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Test?
The Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Test is the most advanced and comprehensive mental health pharmacogenetic test available. This genetic provide genetic information to healthcare professionals which guides prescribing of medications for patients with mental illness and associated comorbidities. Pharmacogenetics testing can play an important role in identifying responders and non-responders to medications, avoiding adverse events, and optimizing drug dose by analysing complex gene-drug and drug-drug interactions simultaneously to better manage your patient’s full medication plan. This test enables your doctor to assess these critical treatment insights without compromising accuracy or depth of information.

The Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Test comprehensively assesses your genetic profile to understand how you uniquely metabolise, respond to, and tolerate different psychiatric medications. This can help your doctor to personalise what medications they prescribe you, and at what dosages.

How much does the test cost?
The Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Test total cost is £786.00 incl. VAT and shipping.

Your Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Report is comprehensive and detailed and for this reason a personalized Zoom consultation with the Genomind Expert Genetic Psychopharmacologists in the USA is available for your doctor, who then also has access to the Genomind Precision Health Platform; this portal provides secure online access to your report and comprehensive additional clinical tools, specific to you. This helps your doctor to check potential drug-drug, drug- gene and drug- age interactions when prescribing medications and other treatments sensitive to certain enzyme systems specific to you. This guidance assumes systemic drug exposure via oral administration of your medication. *Please note that for this reason there may be additional fees with your (private) doctor. Your private doctor may request the additional fees in advance of initiating this process.

Do I need a doctor?
Yes. The Psychiatric Pharmacogenetic Test is a clinician-led test and requires a doctor’s signature to process your test. The doctor has the opportunity to attend a 30-minute clinical consultation with the lab geneticist to interpret your results. Your doctor will then discuss the outcome of your results with you and tailor your treatment accordingly if required. If your doctor does not agree to receive your results, please contact us for further information. Your test cannot be processed  without having a doctor involved to interpret your results.
What does the testing process look like?
The process varies slightly depending on whether you or your doctor order ship-to-patient testing or in office testing.
For ship-to-patient testing, upon receiving your order (before 4 pm), we’ll mail the sample kit the same day, including a simple cheek swab, consent form (requiring both your and your doctor’s signatures), and a return Royal Mail pre-paid envelope. After receiving your paid kit, we coordinate with your doctor for their signature, send the sample to the lab for analysis, and the results provided to your doctor within 7 to 10 business days. Your doctor is then contacted to schedule a clinical consultation with the lab, followed by a discussion with you to tailor your medication based on your genetic profile and treatment plan.

For in-office testing, your doctor will use a test kit from their office. They will collect the sample with a cheek swab and review the consent form during your visit. Your doctor’s office will return your sample to Myogenes via a priority Royal Mail pre-paid envelopment that is included inside the test kit. You will receive the invoice via email once your sample is received. After payment is completed, results are sent to your doctor within 7 to 10 business days.

How long will it take until I get my results?
Upon receipt of your sample, signed consent form, and payment, the results are then sent to your doctor within 7 to 10 business days. Please note that your doctor may require additional time for a clinical consultation with the lab and to schedule a follow-up appointment with you, potentially extending the overall availability.
Will I get the results myself?

Your doctor will share your results with you, as they go directly from the laboratory to your doctor.
