FAQs
1. What is a psychiatric pharmacogenetic test?
A psychiatric pharmacogenetic test analyses your DNA to help predict how you may respond to certain psychiatric medications. It can highlight which treatments are more likely to be effective and which may carry a higher risk of side effects.
2. Who can benefit from this test?
This test is ideal for individuals experiencing side effects, not responding to current medications, or wanting to avoid the trial-and-error approach. It’s also valuable for clinicians managing complex mental health cases or starting patients on treatment.
3. Do I need a doctor to interpret the results?
Yes. A registered doctor must review and sign off on your results. Without a doctor’s involvement, the lab will not process the test. Your results will be shared with your existing clinician.
4. What if I don’t have a doctor?
No problem. We offer the option to book a call with a qualified clinician who can guide you through the process and sign off on the results so your test can be processed. Please note, the clinician will charge separate for this.
5. What medications are covered in the test?
The test looks at over 1000 psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilisers, and more. Your report will provide specific insights based on your genetic profile.
6. How do I take the test?
It’s a simple, non-invasive cheek swab. Once you receive your kit, follow the instructions, and use the prepaid packaging to return your sample to our UK office.
7. How long does it take to get results?
Results are typically available within 5–7 working days from when your sample reaches our lab. Your report will be clear, clinician-ready, and include personalised recommendations.
8. Is the test based on credible science?
Yes. Our test is grounded in internationally recognised guidelines, including those from the CPIC and FDA. It’s aligned with NICE recommendations, processed in an ISO-accredited lab, and uses CE-marked kits.
