Is the test available for those living outside the UK?
Yes. Although Myogenes is a UK based diagnostic company, our tests are available anywhere in the world.
From what age can a child be tested?
There is no age limitation for genetic testing, except for the hereditary cancer tests which can be done after the age of 18.
Can you take the test if you are pregnant?
Pregnancy does not affect genetic testing.
If you are on medication, can you take a genetic test?
Medication does not affect genetic testing.
Prior to taking the test, do you need access to my medical records?
No, we do not need access to medical records.
Does it hurt to take a sample and are there instructions?
No – the test is a saliva sample (instructions will be sent to you within the test kit).
Do I need a referral for genetic testing?
No, our test is open for anybody. However, all of our tests apart from The Health and Well Being Test are clinician-led. This means your results will be sent to your doctor and your doctor will also sign the requisition form.
Who has access to a person’s genetic test results? Are they confidential?
Your results are data protected and require a password – our staff cannot access an individual’s results.
How sure are you that the samples won't be mixed up?
Steps are taken to make sure that this will never – barcodes and requisition forms eliminate any possibility of samples being mixed up.
